TCEDC Announces $100,000 Project to Advance Community Initiatives

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DOVER, OH – The Tuscarawas County Economic Development Corporation (TCEDC) announced today that it has secured a total of $100,000 for its "Village Capacity Building for Tuscarawas County" project. This funding, which includes a $50,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and a $50,000 local match, will be used to develop individualized plans for the twelve participating communities of Tuscarawas County. The local match funds were spearheaded by the Tuscarawas County Mayor’s Association and provided by the twelve participating communities, along with a contribution from the Economic Development Finance Alliance (EDFA) of Tuscarawas County.

The intended beneficiaries of this grant are the following communities:

Baltic, Bolivar, Dennison, Dover, Gnadenhutten, Mineral City, Newcomerstown, New Philadelphia, Strasburg, Sugarcreek, Port Washington, and Uhrichsville.

The project, funded through the READY Appalachia initiative and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act , will support the hiring of an engineering consultant to work directly with these communities. The consultant will develop plans that address each community's unique needs, identify potential funding sources, and engage local stakeholders to align projects with county-wide growth and investment goals.

"The willingness of twelve different communities across the county to come together and align their efforts is a testament to their commitment to a better future for our region," said Marla Akridge, Project Director for the TCEDC. "This level of collaboration is unique, and we are excited to work with them to achieve sustainable, long-term solutions tailored to their needs."

The project has received letters of support from all twelve participating communities, indicating their commitment to the planning process and their willingness to contribute resources and expertise. The project period is from October 1, 2025, through October 1, 2026.
